Sanmenxia is a prefecture level city in Henan Province. It is located in the west of Henan Province. It is adjacent to the Millennium imperial capital Luoyang in the East, Funiu Mountain in the South and Nanyang city. It looks at the ancient capital Xi'an in the West and echoes the three Jin Dynasties across the Yellow River in the North. It is the economic and cultural center at the junction of the three provinces in history.
Sanmenxia covers a total area of 10496 square kilometers. The landform is dominated by mountains, hills and Loess Plateau, of which mountains account for about 54.8%, hills 36% and plains 9.2%. It can be described as "five mountains, four mausoleums and one river".
At present, the city has a forest area of 7.0945 million mu, a forest volume of 17.344 million cubic meters, and a forest coverage rate of 50.72%, ranking first in the province.
Sanmenxia reservoir has a capacity of 9.6 billion cubic meters and an annual regulation and storage capacity of 1.8-2 billion cubic meters. Shanxian mineral hot spring is a calcium sodium high-quality high-temperature mineral water, containing 42 trace elements beneficial to human health, such as lithium, vanadium and iodine. It is a rare high-quality mineral water in China.
Sanmenxia is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the city of swans. On December 31, 2017, Sanmenxia was elected as "2017 China's annual cultural influence city". On October 25, 2018, Sanmenxia was awarded the "satellite application demonstration city".
