Located in Linzhou City, Henan Province, Hongqi Canal is a national 5A scenic spot and a national key cultural relics protection unit. It is known as "artificial Tianhe". The red flag canal is a man-made irrigation canal with a total length of 1500 kilometers.
The completion of the red flag canal has completely ended the suffering history of ten years of drought and water as expensive as oil in Linzhou. It has improved the poor living environment of the people of Lin County relying on weather and other rain, and is called "life canal" and "happiness canal" by the people of Linzhou.
The construction of the red flag canal project started in February 1960 and the supporting works of the branch canal were fully completed in July 1969, which lasted more than ten years.
It takes Zhuozhang River as its source, sets up a dam under houbi fault in Shicheng Town, Pingshun County, Shanxi Province, and introduces Zhanghe River into Lin county (today's Linzhou). Under extremely difficult construction conditions, relying on the spirit of self-reliance and hard work, the people of Lin County overcame many difficulties, fought on the cliffs and cliffs of Taihang Mountain, in dangerous beaches and valleys, dug holes in every mountain, built bridges in ditches, leveled 1250 mountain tops, erected 151 aqueducts, dug 211 tunnels, built 12408 buildings, and dug 22.25 million cubic meters of earth and rock.
If these earth rock barriers are built into walls 2 meters high and 3 meters wide, they can run through the north and south of the motherland and connect Guangzhou and Harbin.
The people of Lin County forged the magnificent "red flag canal spirit" in the construction of this great project that shocked the world and wept ghosts and gods. The red flag canal is no longer a simple water conservancy project. It has become a symbol of the national spirit.
