Bailu's traditional food includes: brewed Bailu rice wine, longan, Bailu tea, sweet potato, simmered black bone white haired chicken, etc.
Bailu is the 15th solar term in the "24 solar terms" and the third solar term in autumn. Bailu is an important solar term reflecting the growth of cold in nature. As the weather gradually turns cool, the sun is still hot in the daytime, but as soon as the sun sets, the temperature drops quickly, and the temperature difference between day and night increases.
1. Brewing Bailu rice wine
There is a custom of brewing Bailu rice wine in the old Nanjing of Southern Jiangsu and Zhejiang. In the old days, when Bailu came to the countryside in Jiangsu and Zhejiang every year, every family made wine to entertain guests. Some people often brought Bailu rice wine to the city.
2. Longan
There is a traditional saying in Fuzhou that "Bailu must eat longan". The folk meaning is that eating longan on Bailu day has the miraculous effect of Tonifying the body. Longan has many effects, such as supplementing qi and spleen, nourishing blood and calming nerves, moisturizing and beauty. It can treat anemia, insomnia, neurasthenia and many other diseases.
3. Bailu tea
Old Nanjing people are very fond of "Bailu tea". At this time, the tea tree is in an excellent period of growth after the hot summer. Bailu tea is neither as fresh and tender as spring tea, nor as dry and bitter as summer tea. Instead, it has a unique sweet and mellow fragrance, which is especially loved by old tea guests.
4. Sweet potato
People believe that Bailu eating sweet potatoes can prevent stomach acid after dinner. Therefore, farmers used to eat sweet potatoes on Bailu Festival.
5. Stewed black bone white hair chicken
Zhejiang, Wenzhou and other places have had the custom of Bailu Festival. People in Cangnan, Pingyang and other places collect "ten kinds of white" (also known as "three kinds of white") to simmer black bone white haired chicken (or duck). It is said that after eating, it can nourish the body and remove the atmosphere (arthritis).
